Ontario's Firefighters Honour Their Fallen
Oct 05, 2024
At 1pm on Sunday, October 6th, Ontario’s fallen firefighters will be honoured for their bravery, heroism, and sacrifice at a special ceremony held at the Ontario Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial located on the northeast corner of Queens Park.

Seventy-three names of fallen firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities have been added to the Memorial Wall this year.

The ceremony will include remarks by Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont, Premier Doug Ford, Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, and Fire Marshal Jon Pegg.

Wreaths will be laid on the memorial by Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont on behalf of the People of Ontario, Premier Doug Ford on behalf of the Ontario Government, and representatives from the Ontario Fire Fighter Memorial Foundation on behalf of firefighters from across the province.  More than 300 family members of the fallen will also attend the ceremony.

The memorial is staged on a red maltese cross, an international firefighting symbol.  A bronze sculpture depicts a modern-day firefighter rescuing a child from peril with a towering black granite monolith representing a building behind.  Engraved on the polished granite walls surrounding it, are the name, rank, and date of death of over 1,035 firefighters whose deaths are considered in the line of duty.
