Fire Fighter Paramedics

Firefighters have been responding to medical calls for decades, providing life-saving services for Ontario municipalities.

Many professional fire fighters are also certified paramedics but are restricted by statute from using their knowledge, medical expertise, and skills to provide pre-hospital emergency patient care as a paramedic when they respond on a fire truck.

The position of the OPFFA is that not utilizing fire department capacity and this resource is a missed opportunity.

Although not currently actively lobbying for this item, the OPFFA is still raising awareness in communities on the issue to provide relief to spiralling health care costs and long hospital wait times.  You can help by signing and sharing our petition to the Provincial Government. We'll also notify you of the status of the issue from time to time.
